Omaha Film Festival – Release Party 2013

Greetings filmmakers, screenwriters, and film enthusiasts,

Saturday evening, February 9th from 6:00pm to 11:00pm, come check out the beautiful North Sea Films building and visit the Omaha Film Festival folks to discuss the upcoming Eighth Annual Omaha Film Festival. There will be plenty of time to socialize and meet filmmakers, screenwriters, and actors to discuss upcoming projects, and we’d like to take some time to talk about some festival specific topics.

For those in attendance, we will be unveiling our list of films for the first time to the general public, so this is your chance to be the first to know! As you know, we show some of the best independent feature films, documentaries, short films, animated shorts, and OFF the EDGE films every year, and we’re very excited about the films that we’ve chosen to showcase this year.

During the film announcement portion of the evening we will have an open dialog and encourage everyone to get involved in helping us market the specific films that we will be screening. This year’s festival has a little something for everyone and the more people that come and get excited about it and help us spread the word, the better the event will be for everyone.

We plan to have the OFF’13 posters and post cards available for those that would like to help us get the word out and we plan on having our 2013 festival t-shirts available for the first time as well so you can be the first ones to wear them!

There will be tons of door prizes and raffle drawings, including OFF t-shirts and festival passes, so come join the fun!

Tres Johnson – flannel & blossoms

when asked to do this show, i was thinking about the space. the music they have playing is usually 90s grunge rock. so i wanted to create pieces that fit that vibe, while maintaining a connection to the rest of the work i have been putting out. somewhere in the middle of making canvas look like old jeans or a broken in flannel shirt, i started messing about with making my signature drip and turning it into sort of a sumei style branch. next i made 3 cherry blossom stencils, and started hitting the ends of the drips with them. i love the way they turned out. with these pieces i feel that they have really found a home on my gerhard richter inspired smears.

i would love it if you could come check them out. they will be available to buy, but you will have to let it hang for the month. there are also great beer choices, and awesome burgers. so you can eat, drink, and check out art!

Tres Johnson:
Mostly self taught artist. I say mostly, because along the way, I have been fortunate enough to catch some classes at major universities across the United States. A lot of my self taught education with art, came from being able to sit for hours at the St. Louis art museum. I moved around the country a lot, and doing so I was able to soak in different cultures of different people, than what was common to me. Along the way I was developing two unique styles. On one hand I was in the studio, smearing oils on canvas, and scraping it all off. On the other hand I was looking at graffiti, and the early forms of street art, as letters were turning into characters. Anytime I painted “in the wild”, it was usually something political or punk rock related. Around 1996 I lived in Telluride, Colorado, where I, along with an artist friend would go into the mountains, and create metal/wood/bone sculptures. Since 1989 I have been in a few group shows in St. Louis, Scottsdale, and Omaha. It was when I moved to Omaha that the street combined with the studio art, to get me to the point I am at right now.
